Callisto is a powerful server based application that optimizes print
jobs sent to Sharp Digital IMAGERS and third party networked printers.
The software enables the customers to control load balancing, redirect
print jobs, and split jobs between multiple networked devices. Large
jobs can be completed faster thereby increasing productivity.
Time-saving features like auto redirect and print spooling, Callisto
provides the reliability that busy offices and workgroups require so
they'll never miss an important deadline.
With Callisto, the network administrator can create "virtual" print
queues associated with actual output devices. Each print queue can have
different rules on how to route different print jobs.
Since Callisto is server-based, the customer is not restricted on the
number of users or printers supported. It works "transparently: to the
user. That means that once the Administrator creates the virtual
printer, the user simply selects it as they would any other printer. |
 |
Unexpected high volume print jobs are handled with ease.
Callisto allows the administrator to establish a cluster of printers and
it automatically sends print jobs to the printer with volume
capabilities that match the size of the job. Larger are split among
printers in the cluster. |
 |
Callisto maximizes printing efficiency by minimizing down time. If a
printer is offline, Callisto automatically sends print jobs to the first
available printer for an uninterrupted workflow. |
| Callisto gives network administrators total control of
print management across entire networks. Running as a service on a
Windows NT4/2000 server or workstation, Callisto is a powerful tool
which is capable of monitoring and manipulating network print functions
in both Windows NT4/2000 and Novell NetWare 4 or 5 environments. The
network administrator creates a virtual print queue that appears to
users as a single printer. The administrator then defines a number of
alternative output devices which could service the print request, and
the criteria for how each device will be used. If a printer goes
off-line for any reason (paper jam, door open etc.) printing is
automatically re-directed to an alternative device. Multiple input
queues can be configured, giving administrators complete control of
their print environment. The service will monitor network print
requests, irrespective of the operating system running on the users'
workstations. It is thus compatible with a mixture of Windows 3.1,
Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Novell NetWare. The
configuration interface has been designed to clearly display network
resources, and to simplify the task of managing those resources. By
utilizing a simple drag and drop approach, an administrator can have a
system installed and configured in less than 15 minutes. (Copyright

| Customer Benefits |
| |
- The ability to manage and control print costs by automatically
selecting the best printing device based on the print job
characteristics.
- The advantage of not being rip or manufacturer specific so that
printers from any manufacturer that is SNMP compliant can be clustered
together.
- Easy setup and installation can usually be accomplished in less
than 1 hour using a convenient setup wizard utilizing graphical drag
and drop interface that shows your cluster layouts in a graphical
format.
- Provides a feature for equal engine utilization so that all
printers in a cluster will be share an equal portion of the print
load.
- Engine speed factoring is also a feature available that insures
that print jobs will be completed the most time efficient manner.
- User friendly, utilizes standard windows printer drivers
- Allows for load balancing (set splitting) to multiple print
devices allowing for increased productivity
- Automatic redirection provides redundancy and minimizes downtime
by redirecting print jobs from a down machine to the next available.
- Investment protection by setting thresholds of smaller devices and
automatically redirecting larger jobs to a high volume device or
corporate CRD
- Very competitive pricing when compared to other cluster printing
applications
